Adoption Guidelines

At Homes Fur Hounds, Inc., we work to ensure pets and families are well matched. That is why we use a specific process for matching rescues with people. It is in the best interest of the animal and the adopting family.

Potential Adopters Must

Be 21 years of age or older
Live in a residence that allows pets
Agree to a background and home check
Live in Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, West Virginia, or Eastern Tennessee
Have never been accused of or convicted of a crime against an animal (signature required on legal form)
Confirm that all other pets in the home must be spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated and typically get along with other dogs
Complete the application and get approved prior to meeting/adopting
Provide personal and Veterinary references* authorize them to talk to us about your pet care history
Pay the adoption fee in full prior to or at the time of adoption. We accept cash, check, or online payments through our website

*Our review process includes contacting your vet's office to verify that you provide monthly heartworm prevention for current and previous dogs. Please DO NOT apply if you know you have not been providing regular heartworm prevention. Some exceptions are made due to medical issues.
